About Us
We publish a free, modern browser version of Canfield Solitaire — the classic casino patience game with a 13-card reserve and a base-card foundation — with unlimited undo, hints, and a layout that works on any screen.
Our craft
One deck. One reserve.
Empty the reserve, keep four columns tidy, lift every suit from the base card. That loop is everything we design around.

What we make
canfieldsolitaire.app is the site behind our version of Canfield Solitaire. The product is a single-player card game: clear a 13-card reserve, build four tableau columns down in alternating colours, and move all 52 cards to four foundation piles built by suit from the base card.
We are not an app-store publisher and there is nothing to download. The game is the website. That keeps load times short, works on phones and desktops alike, and avoids an account wall. Wins, best times, move counts, and streaks live in local browser storage on your device.
If you are comparing this to another solitaire site, this page only speaks for canfieldsolitaire.app. The rules and controls described in our how-to-play guide and FAQ match this exact build.
Our story
Canfield has one of the more colourful histories of any solitaire. We treat that as a responsibility to get the rules exactly right and the friction as close to zero as we can.
Canfield is commonly credited to Richard A. Canfield, who ran a well-known gambling house in Saratoga Springs, New York, around 1900. Patrons reportedly bought a deck for a fixed sum and were paid for every card they sent to the foundations. The house kept the edge because the game is so hard to win.
In the United Kingdom the same game is called Demon, and it has a two-deck relative, Double Canfield, that keeps the reserve idea. What sets Canfield apart from Klondike is the reserve pile, the four wrapping tableau columns, and the foundation base card that changes with every deal.
canfieldsolitaire.app is an independent, modern implementation of the classic ruleset. The rules are unchanged apart from generous defaults — unlimited redeals and unlimited undo. What is new is a rendering that is smooth on a phone, a layout that keeps the reserve, four columns, and four foundations on one screen, and progress you can keep without an account.
What we stand for
Open the page and a game is already dealt. No account wall, no download, no splash video — the cards are on the table before you finish reading this sentence.
Draw three, unlimited redeals, unlimited undo. Nothing is gated behind a "pro" toggle and nothing nags you to install an app.
Wins, best time, fewest moves, and win streak live on your device. We do not hold your record hostage behind a login, because there is no login.
The whole game is free forever. No energy meters, no interstitial video ads between deals, no surprise paywall on the hint button.
Who it is for
canfieldsolitaire.app is a family-friendly, single-player game with no chat and no store. A poor fit if you want multiplayer or live events; a good fit if you want the real game of Canfield, exactly as you remember it, on whatever screen is nearby.
A deal takes a few minutes. Canfield is built for a phone on the couch or a browser tab between tasks, not a long campaign.
There is no clock forcing a move and nothing to react to. The entire challenge is planning around the reserve, the base card, and four crowded columns.
Your record stays on the device you played on. That is a deliberate trade: instant play and real privacy, with no cloud restore.
Why this site
Canfield has a handful of implementations online. This one exists to ship a single honest, fast version — correct rules, a clear reserve, and no clutter.
The 13-card reserve is drawn as a real fanned pile beside the tableau, so you can see how much is left to dig out. Emptied columns refill from it automatically.
Unlimited undo, a hint that actually points at a useful move, and legal drop targets that light up while you drag.
No auto-playing video, no fake "download our app" banners, no dark patterns around the settings. The how-to-play guide and FAQ describe this exact engine, not a generic write-up.
How we build
The game runs entirely on the web: fast loads, drag / tap / keyboard controls, and progress that stays local unless you clear your browser data. We use lightweight analytics to see what helps players — never to gate the game behind a profile. The engine on the home page is the one described on our rules pages, so search results and the live game never drift apart.
Phone, tablet, and desktop share one board. Drag with a mouse, tap on a touchscreen, or use the keyboard shortcuts for the stock, undo, and hint.
Wins, best time, fewest moves, and streak are stored locally. You own the continuity of your record without signing up.
We watch aggregate usage through Google Analytics to improve pacing and polish. Details are in our Privacy Policy — never as a sales pitch.
